Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Before You Begin

Important: Do not assemble the buckle and connector together until the buckle is placed around the cover strap. Assembling it beforehand will prevent it from fitting correctly over the strap.

What you'll need:

  • A Phillips head screwdriver
  • Your Spa Buckle set (lower mount plates, upper strap buckles, screws, and key locks — all included)

Step 1 — Attach the Buckle to Your Cover Strap

Loop the small end of the upper buckle around your existing hot tub cover strap. Once it's in position around the strap, push the connector piece into place to secure it. No tools required — the connector snaps firmly in by hand.

Tip: Make sure the buckle is centred on the strap before snapping the connector in.

Step 2 — Position the Mount Plate

Hold the lower mount plate against the side of your hot tub skirting, directly below where the cover strap hangs. Leave a little slack in the strap — you don't want it pulled tight, as the strap needs a small amount of flex to seat properly into the mount when the cover is closed.

Tip: Close your cover and let the buckle hang naturally to find the ideal mount position before marking or drilling.

Step 3 — Secure the Mount to the Hot Tub

Using the included #8 deck screws, fasten the mount plate to your hot tub skirting — two screws per mount, one at each end of the plate. Tighten firmly. This is the permanent base that everything locks into, so make sure it's solid.

Tip: Most hot tub skirting is wood or composite — the screws bite in easily without pre-drilling.

Step 4 — Lock It In

Lower your hot tub cover. The upper buckle (attached to the strap) will drop into the mount plate. Give the front of the mount a quarter-turn to lock the buckle in place.

To engage full key security, insert the key and turn it to lock the rotating mechanism. The buckle cannot be opened without the key.

Repeat for All Four Corners

A standard hot tub requires one Spa Buckle per corner — four total. Repeat the steps above for each corner. Total installation time is approximately 15 minutes for all four.

Swim spa owners: Swim spas have longer covers and typically need 8 buckles. Simply purchase two sets and install one buckle approximately every 2 feet along each side.

Using Your Spa Buckle

To open: If the key lock is engaged, insert the key and turn to unlock. Then give the mount a quarter-turn in the opposite direction to release the buckle. Lift the cover as normal.

To close: Lower the cover so the buckle drops into the mount, then give it a quarter-turn to lock. Turn the key if you want full security.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Spa Buckle fit my hot tub?

Spa Buckle is designed to work with all standard hot tub cover straps. The upper clamp is adjustable and fits straps of varying widths. The lower mount plate attaches to your hot tub's skirting, which is a standard feature on virtually all hot tub models.

Do I need to modify my cover?

No. The upper buckle loops over your existing cover strap — no cutting, no drilling into the cover, no new hardware required on the cover itself.

What if my skirting is made of a different material?

The included #8 deck screws work well with wood and composite skirting, which is standard on most hot tubs. If your skirting is a harder material, you may want to pre-drill pilot holes before inserting the screws.

My key isn't turning smoothly — what should I do?

The key is only intended to turn when the buckle is in the closed position. Ensure that the buckle is fully rotated to the closed position before turning the key
